A data-driven vision for a flexible, student-centered learning environment at the heart of campus.
EHDD developed the Detailed Project Program (DPP) for the University of California Davis’s Teaching and Learning Complex (TLC)—a 72,000-square-foot, net-zero-ready academic building designed to serve as a central hub for instruction and collaboration. Designed to accommodate approximately 2,000 classroom seats, the TLC integrates flexible instructional spaces, active learning environments, and traditional classrooms that support evolving pedagogies and future-forward technologies.
Through an iterative, stakeholder-driven planning process, EHDD collaborated with the TLC Implementation Committee, academic planners, and campus facilities leadership to align space needs with institutional priorities. Extensive outreach—including design charrettes, AV and code coordination, and a two-day campus-wide event—captured faculty and student input on classroom layouts, study spaces, and furnishings. This collaborative engagement shaped a learning environment built for adaptability, inclusion, and long-term success.
The DPP also addresses site planning, landscaped gathering areas, and sustainability goals aligned with the UC Carbon Neutrality Initiative. This LEED Silver project establishes a replicable model for campus learning environments rooted in real user needs.
