A bold workspace that steps outside insurance industry norms, where raw character meets refined historic detail.
The G2 Office Renovation project is a 9,400-square-foot corporate interiors project located in San Francisco’s historic 140 New Montgomery building. G2 Insurance sought a workspace that embodied its retro and radical brand identity—merging the building’s original elegance with a progressive design.
Upon entry, visitors encounter salvaged Tennessee marble from the original structure, reimagined in the building lobby and as a custom reception desk. A restored Hermann Safe Company vault door marks the entrance to a lounge—blending vintage industrial elements with a modern twist.
To depart from the traditional, closed-in feel of insurance offices, the design maximized ceiling heights with an open structural ceiling to celebrate its volume. Enclosed rooms were built with transparent glass fronts to enhance daylight and visibility. Clean white finishes and vibrant furnishings brighten the workspace, reinforcing a sense of energy and openness.
To further distinguish G2 as an edgy company, exposed brick perimeter walls, concrete columns and shear walls, mechanical ducts, electrical conduits lend the space an intentional ruggedness. Behind the reception desk, a tall sprinkler riser painted fire engine red is left prominently on display as a proud design statement—G2 is not your average insurance company. The result is a distinctive, brand-aligned headquarters that merges past and present, tradition and modernization, just like the company itself.
