A flexible cruise terminal and event center tailored to the Pacific Northwest.
EHDD designed the 145,000-square-foot Smith Cove Cruise Ship Terminal and Event Center to support the Port of Seattle’s growing role in Alaska-bound cruise operations while accommodating large-scale events year-round. Located at the end of Pier 91 on Elliott Bay, the facility was carefully planned to handle heavy passenger volumes and adapt to changing program needs.
The first level is dedicated to high-volume functions like passenger arrivals, baggage handling, and ground transportation access. On the second floor, visitors are welcomed into expansive, light-filled ticketing and waiting areas. Two exterior balconies provide direct connections to gangways and vessels. When cruise operations are not in session, the building transforms into a flexible venue for trade shows, banquets, receptions, and conferences.
Large windows and covered decks frame sweeping views of Elliott Bay, West Seattle, and the city skyline, offering a memorable backdrop for travelers and event attendees alike. The building envelope includes a durable rain screen wall assembly and high-performance glazing to withstand the Puget Sound’s coastal conditions. Skylights and advanced lighting controls contribute to the project’s energy efficiency.
Blending industrial durability with hospitality-driven flexibility, the terminal delivers a resilient, welcoming experience that reflects Seattle’s identity as a working waterfront and a world-class destination.
