Design Competition. Candidate project
The project for the Social Condominium located in the former Sanatorio Galateo in Lecce reverses the tuberculosis containment function for which it was built in 1929. In the proposed restoration and repurposing, the building is opened up to the city. The nodes of the transversal and longitudinal pathways are designed as common spaces to accommodate aids and facilities for residents and occasional guests. The floor plan of the project proposes a functional zoning organization of the competition area, almost like a barcode that interprets the site's specificities and defines the new functions with a natural and alternating rhythm between the existing structure and the new additions.
Barra 1: The relationship of the competition area with the urban avenue.
Barra 2: The historical garden to be restored.
Barra 3: The North block, primarily designated for start-ups.
Barra 4: The central block with the new parking garage located in the basement (-1).
Barra 5: The South block, the largest, designated for housing.
Barra 6: The new boundary/ramp for connecting with the existing park.
