Design Competition. Winning project (first place)
The project is set within a relatively regular, trapezoidal-shaped lot, currently occupied by two buildings scheduled for demolition. The new buildings, designed to host both a primary school and a nursery school, adopt an L-shaped layout. This configuration consolidates the open, natural areas, streamlining their management and maintenance. At the same time, it enhances visual connections between the indoor spaces and the surrounding greenery, while shielding these areas from street traffic.
The main wing accommodates the classrooms: those of the nursery school are located on the ground floor and enjoy direct access to a dedicated garden; the classrooms of the primary school are distributed across the first, second, and third floors. The facade facing Via Lioce is set back to preserve the existing mature trees, some of which become part of the entrance plaza, while others are integrated into the nursery school’s protected garden. The main building rises four levels above ground, whereas the single-storey lateral wing, which also serves as a secondary entrwance to the nursery school, contains shared spaces and common areas.
