Design competition. Candidate project
The new headquarters of the Judicial Offices of Trani is divided into two parts. The project proposes, on one hand, the completion of the restoration of the current Palazzo Carcano and, on the other, the expansion with new courtrooms.
The existing building, refunctionalized with minimal interventions, transforms its nature from a noble residence to a public office. The courtyard is preserved, and the windows of the existing palace are left unobstructed. From the portico on the ground floor which faces the Castello Svevo, access is provided to the new Judicial Offices, the café-restaurant, and the multimedia contents of the modern antiquarium, located in the exhibition space at the corner of Via Accademia dei Pellegrini and Piazza Re Manfredi. The floor of the portico features the real-scale design of the archaeological finds discovered during the excavation campaign already completed, as well as those to be conducted in the future. On the upper floors, from the corridors leading to the new courtrooms, one can enjoy views of the Castle and the Adriatic Sea.
