Design competition. Award-winning project (second place)
Stitching together the South-East parts of the city of Bari through a project aimed at establishing virtuous relationships between local-scale light infrastructure, open yet productive spaces, limits to land consumption. Also take into account environmental responsibility and social change, and large natural areas that promote the ecological integration of urban systems - ensuring a good and long life for its inhabitants.
The project can be summarized through the following five guiding principles:
1. Eliminate the coastal road and transform the area into a linear coastal park.
2. Open up a natural landscape corridor between scattered buildings through selective demolition and partial replacement.
3. Seek, within the current city/countryside hybrid, the traces of a new framework for the neighborhood.
4. Elevate the role of the Via Gentile–Japigia axis to become the backbone of the project.
5. Clearly define the boundaries along the seafront and on the inland side, in alignment with the city's major traffic routes.
