A welcoming academic hub that redefines the library’s role in student success.
The Vasché Library Renovation at California State University, Stanislaus is a transformative higher education project located in Turlock, California. EHDD provided architectural services for this 133,077-square-foot renovation, delivered via design-build. The reimagined library supports the CSU Graduation Initiative, designed to help students—many of whom are the first in their families to attend college—complete their degrees in four years.
The library’s design reflects a new model of academic support and accessibility. By integrating strategic campus partnerships, the space accommodates a wide range of student needs through intuitive layouts and multipurpose uses. Study seat capacity more than doubled within the existing footprint, offering a mix of quiet carrels, communal tables, and multimedia collaboration rooms. Compact, browsable electronic shelving freed up space without sacrificing access to collections.
Technology access is a cornerstone of the redesign. Students benefit from distributed computer stations, laptop checkout, a tech help desk, and group study spaces outfitted for digital collaboration. Resources and staff are centrally organized in a welcoming one-stop-shop model, ensuring streamlined support.
By combining flexibility, equity, and innovation, the Vasché Library now serves as the academic and social heart of the campus—helping students feel supported, connected, and prepared for success.
