Field Paoli played a unique role in the design of the Whole Foods at Howard Hughes’ Downtown Summerlin project, serving as architect for both the tenant and the landlord. Two distinct teams within the firm collaborated closely, allowing for increased communication and efficient resolution of coordination issues that often arise in shell build-to-suit projects. The completed Retail
Center is comprised of three buildings designed by Field Paoli: a 48,000-square-foot Whole Foods grocery, an 18,000-squarefoot building housing three restaurants and two retail spaces, and a 3,200-square-foot Starbucks. The Center was constructed
to achieve LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, reflecting Downtown Summerlin’s emphasis on sustainability and walkability. The project incorporates electric vehicle charging stations and walking trails that connect the Center
to the surrounding residential and retail areas.
