SoMa Steep Brew created a new neighborhood gathering space in an under-utilized corner of the SoMa Whole Foods store. Inspired by the local community of start-ups and creative industries, an unfinished feel was created by using exposed wood framing as glass shelving, bottle display, tap handle storage, and menu board framing for the bar, along with an exposed plywood soffit overhead. To speak to the surrounding historical manufacturing typologies, the floor finish was ground away to expose the concrete aggregate, the bar was clad in brick, and repurposed glulam beams and raw steel were used to form the bar top and seated counter.
