Field Paoli was asked to renovate and revitalize downtown Napa Town Center, now rebranded as First Street Napa, to build on the success of the recently opened Archer Hotel and its ground floor Charlie Palmer Steak restaurant. The design of the new and renovated buildings is inspired by materials and proportions typical of wine country architecture. The first phase included a new 4,500 sf building, designed in collaboration with local artist Richard Von Saal and featuring weathered metal panels and a vertical planted trellis to create a strong presence along First Street. A much larger, 80,000 sf building renovation features second floor creative office space, as well as local and national tenants such as Tommy Bahamas and local favorite Compline Wine Bar, Restaurant and Wine
Merchant. The common areas are shaded by clusters of olive trees, and feature art and furnishings by a number of local artists, including the iconic “LOVE” sculpture by Reno artists Laura Kimpton and Jeff Schomberg, which became a symbol of the area’s resilience after the devastating fires of October 2017.
