Lunetterie Parade is an independent optometry boutique and clinic located at Espace Montmorency in Laval. The space, which grew from an initial 1,200 sq ft to 1,800 sq ft to meet the client's needs, unfolds within an irregularly triangular floor plan at the base of a residential tower, with glazed facades on two long sides and a single available wall for plumbing and clinical equipment. Structural columns at the heart of the space presented an additional challenge that ultimately became the project's defining design premise.
The guiding concept was to create an outdoor terrace promenade. The abundant natural light, shifting throughout the day, became an integral part of the experience. Structural columns were reimagined as large trees whose roots become display fixtures, whose textured trunks become mirrors, and whose canopies gently brighten to welcome light. Lush greenery punctuates the journey, casting shadows and reflections that become part of the materiality of the space.
Custom pendant lights designed with Lumigroup float overhead like large parasols filtering sunlight, and their circular forms are echoed on the floor in the bespoke display units below. Natural, warm tones ground the space while airy colors rise upward, creating an environment that meets clinical standards while remaining welcoming to a wide range of clients.
The frames on display are treated as objects of beauty punctuating the promenade, like flowers coloring the bushes of a park. Parade becomes a destination, a place of visual richness where eyewear takes center stage.
