Cozumel is a 54-room hotel project inspired by the paradisiacal island of the same name, famous for its coral reefs discovered in the 1960s by Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Today a beloved destination for divers and Caribbean cruise travelers, the island inspired a design that embraces both the warmth and light of the sun and the coolness of shade.
The building is oriented northward to maximize natural light while minimizing heat gain. A fully landscaped ground floor hosts the common areas, a pool, hammocks, a yoga terrace, and pergolas, establishing an intimate relationship with the surrounding nature. A vegetated portico entry leads to an open central space featuring a gallery and a ventilation shaft, while a water basin brings freshness and shade to the heart of the project.
The guest units, with double orientation, are connected by exterior corridors that promote cross ventilation. The building envelope plays subtly with shadow and light through double walls and mashrabiya screens, ensuring both resident privacy and protection against overheating.
Inspired by Mexican minimalism and materials that merge with earth and stone, Cozumel adopts a refined aesthetic with a bohemian chic touch, a place where modernity and nature coexist in perfect harmony.
