Located on a prominent headland within the Mina Al Arab masterplan, the Intercontinental Ras Al Khaimah Mina Al Arab Resort & Spa redefines contemporary coastal hospitality through a design that places landscape, water and guest experience at the centre of the architecture. Rather than competing with its surroundings, the resort is carefully composed as a series of interconnected low-rise buildings that maximise sea views, strengthen the relationship with the coastline and create a calm, immersive destination.
Designed by P&T Group for RAK Properties, the 43,600 sqm, five-star resort brings together hotel rooms and suites, beachfront villas, restaurants, wellness facilities, conference spaces and leisure amenities within a masterplan that responds directly to the site's rare dual-waterfront condition. Facing the Arabian Gulf on one side and a manmade waterway on the other, the development transforms the constraints of the site into one of its defining architectural strengths.
The design adopts a restrained architectural language, characterised by crisp white façades, deep shading devices, generous terraces and carefully selected natural materials. Rather than relying on expressive forms, the architecture uses proportion, light, shadow and landscape to create a timeless resort environment that feels both contemporary and rooted in its coastal setting.
Sustainability was embedded throughout the design process. Solar hot water collectors provide approximately 60-70% of the resort's hot water demand, while high-efficiency mechanical systems, heat recovery technologies, LED lighting and intelligent building controls reduce long-term operational energy use without compromising guest comfort.
Completed in 2021, the resort demonstrates P&T Group's integrated approach to hospitality design, bringing together architecture, engineering and masterplanning to deliver a destination that balances operational performance, environmental responsibility and an enduring sense of place.
