Yarrow Gardens is conceived as a two-storey envelope-controlled semi-detached residence with a mezzanine, attic, and swimming pool, carefully shaped to balance privacy, natural light, and spatial generosity within its site context. The design adopts a deliberate play between solidity and openness, responding sensitively to orientation and neighbouring conditions. The west-facing elevation is kept more solid to shield the interiors from the afternoon sun, while the side facing its immediate neighbour just four metres away is restrained, with carefully placed openings only in non-private areas. Instead of relying on these facades for light, the house draws daylight from above and from within, introducing skylights and a central courtyard void open to the sky. This strategy not only bathes the home in diffused natural light but also creates a vertical spatial drama that ties the interiors together.

At the rear, the façade turns its back to the adjacent international school, prioritising privacy while still allowing controlled openness where needed. Within, the living room is expressed as a soaring double-volume space, its sliding windows shielded by openable screens that provide both shade and airflow. This same layered approach continues into the junior master suite, where sliding windows are similarly protected, and the bathroom beneath a skylight frames an intimate bathing experience illuminated from above.

Movement through the home is choreographed with moments of connection to landscape. The outdoor walkway to the car porch canopy overlooks both the pool and the living room’s lofty interior, dissolving boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. Full-height glass doors on the side elevation admit light deeply into the plan, reinforcing a sense of openness and permeability, while high-level windows are positioned with care to avoid direct sightlines from shared circulation areas, balancing light with privacy.

The architecture is at once robust and refined, marrying functional considerations with a poetic use of light and space. Across seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, Yarrow Gardens offers a residence that is both expansive and intimate, where courtyards, voids, and screens transform everyday living into an experience of layered transparency, shade, and seclusion. It is a home shaped by context yet elevated by a vision of comfort, privacy, and contemporary elegance.
