Easterseals DC MD VA, a leading nonprofit dedicated to serving individuals with disabilities, partnered with MOYA to design a new 21,879-square-foot Head Start and support services facility in Hagerstown, Maryland. The interior fit-out aimed to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and purpose-driven space that would enhance early childhood education and adult support programs in the region. MOYA’s team, led by Paola Moya (Creative Director), Vinay Ganeshan (Principal), Adrian Saunders (Project Manager), and Renata De Miguel Orozco (Project Designer), developed a design that reflected the core values of Easterseals—accessibility, empowerment, and community integration.
The project’s interior strategy combined colorful visual elements with calm, navigable layouts to promote a sense of autonomy and comfort for users of all ages and abilities. Though the construction phase was ultimately canceled due to state budget reductions, MOYA’s design was completed through permit submission, demonstrating full design and regulatory readiness.
Collaborators included Lighthouse for MEP engineering, Ehlert Bryan for structural, Sage Design for landscape architecture, Triad Engineering for civil, and Davis as the general contractor. The project exemplifies MOYA’s commitment to working with mission-driven organizations to create spaces that are not only functional but emotionally supportive and community-enhancing—even in the face of shifting funding realities.
