BENCH U _ LINE HYBRID is the most refined interpretation of Dominika Blažek’s “U” series—a project built on the tension between the weight of stone and the raw character of charred wood. The bench combines the two previously explored materials into a single composition, where each element intensifies the presence of the other.
The monolithic seat is crafted from natural marble with a pale background and a dramatic, graphic veining pattern. The stone appears cool and almost abstract, while the supports, made from timber treated with the Shou Sugi Ban technique, introduce darkness, depth, and organic texture. The charred surface of the wood, marked by visible cracking, forms a powerful contrast with the smooth, polished plane of the marble.
The form remains faithful to the “U” line. The horizontal stone slab appears to float above the ground, supported by two massive black timber elements. As a result, the object gains an architectural rhythm and a sense of balance between lightness and monumentality.
BENCH U _ LINE HYBRID is intended for spaces where materiality is as important as form—luxury terraces, galleries, courtyards, boutique hotels, and contemporary gardens. The piece operates simultaneously as furniture and sculpture, emphasizing the value of natural materials through their radically different qualities.
