BENCH U | LINE BLACK explores seating as a sculptural and architectural gesture. Defined by a reduced monolithic form and executed in charred timber, the project brings together minimalist geometry and the tactile depth of material transformation.
Developed as part of the U series, the piece is constructed from wood treated using the traditional Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique. The resulting blackened surface carries visible traces of burning, cracking, and texture, introducing an organic instability into an otherwise disciplined and highly controlled form.
Reduced to its essential silhouette, the object reads as a continuous carved volume rather than an assembled bench. In this tension between utility and monumentality, BENCH U | LINE BLACK occupies a space between furniture, sculpture, and landscape intervention.
