Located in the quiet residential landscape of Laguna, The Screen Houses explores the expressive potential of diagonal geometry as both architectural language and environmental response. Bold, angular screens animate the façade, introducing a sense of movement while mitigating solar exposure and providing privacy to the master bedroom and family lounge.
Extending beyond aesthetics, the screened volumes frame an adjoining balcony that blurs the threshold between interior and exterior, creating an intimate space for everyday living and social gatherings. A restrained palette of deep, muted tones reflects the client's vision, resulting in a home where materiality, climate responsiveness, and spatial experience are seamlessly integrated.
The project also reflects our pursuit of a new design language for contemporary residential architecture in the Philippines, one that moves beyond conventional domestic forms and embraces architecture as a bold expression of place, climate, and identity. Rather than following familiar typologies, the design seeks to challenge expectations while remaining deeply responsive to the needs of its occupants and the tropical environment.
Ultimately, The Screen Houses demonstrates how a single architectural gesture can define identity, enhance environmental performance, and elevate the everyday experience of home.
