A unique revival of the 1893 Reading Train Shed is the centerpiece of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, a catalyst in the economic rebirth of central Philadelphia.
In the project's new construction, a modern convention center design weaves a highly functional, 1,250,000 sf convention center into its prominent urban setting. Clerestories, distinctive entries, welcoming canopies, and bow windows overlay the facades and generously wash the interiors with light. The terminal building serves as the facility's signature entrance and accommodates the Grand Hall, meeting rooms, and the ballroom.
The expansion of the convention center will generate similar development to the revitalization caused by the original building while setting a contemporary, forward-looking design theme to define the center's new presence on Broad Street. The internal organization of the building creates a grand public concourse that will, when viewed through a transparent facade, knit the activities of the building with those along the street.
