BENCH U _ LINE MARBLE
Designer: Dominika Blažek
Firm: LABORATORYART
BENCH U _ LINE MARBLE is the third interpretation of Dominika Blažek’s signature “U” series—the most monumental and the closest to the idea of functional sculpture. The project is based on the same restrained geometry as the previous versions, yet the material completely transforms its perception. In place of wood or composite, the bench is formed from stone with a dramatic, almost painterly character.
The bench is crafted from natural marble with a pale background and an expressive network of dark veining. The organic pattern cuts across the monolithic form like a natural drawing, giving the object a distinctive identity. Each piece is therefore unique; the material is not a surface finish, but the primary narrative element of the design.
The form remains defined by the “U” line. The seat and supports are conceived as a single continuous block, creating the impression of a volume carved from one piece of stone. The minimalist silhouette contrasts with the expressive veining of the marble, producing a tension between order and natural unpredictability.
BENCH U _ LINE MARBLE is intended for representative environments—luxury lobbies, galleries, courtyards, terraces, and contemporary landscape settings. The object functions simultaneously as seating and sculpture, introducing a sense of permanence, stillness, and material refinement.
