They say that yoga is the union of body and mind. Our job was to find a place where this was possible. Create a comfortable and flexible space to practice sports as well as a warm and calm environment for meditation.
The initial space was a blank canvas, a long and narrow plant that we decided to divide into three sections according to the program of needs. The organizing element is a module located in the central part of the premises formed by exposed brick partitions that draw a broken path in plan and give fluidity to the circulation space. This is where the services part of the program is housed: toilets, changing rooms and storage.
In turn, this element delimits the two main spaces, one used as a teahouse and reception at the front of the premises and the other for the practice of yoga in the background, achieving a spatial continuity where each area connects to the previous one and in turn to the next naturally.
To achieve the desired environment we use a series of materials and construction techniques that give warmth and simplicity to the space. That is why we decided to use the materials in their most natural state. Wood, concrete with its imperfections and brick combined with exposed installations and unfinished fittings. Thus, the essence of the place is found in nature itself and the peace that it transmits.
We seek with the design to reflect the philosophy of yoga so that the furniture plays a role
fundamental. For example, the continuous bar of the tea room creates an environment of relationship and trust, and the shelves made to measure to store the material in the classroom transmit order and cleanliness. Also the direct connection with the sun is essential in the practice of yoga, which is why we use this symbolism in the shape and lighting of the mirrors located in the most representative areas of the place.
Just as important is the lighting in the project. The attempt is made to enhance the entry of natural light in the areas in contact with the outside with large windows and is complemented by a studied artificial lighting suitable for each of the different environments.
In short, the project symbolizes a journey where, upon entering, the user leaves behind the fast pace of life and gradually connects with space through the body and mind.
