On the corner of East Pike and Summit Avenue in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, the second location of Tavolàta welcomes visitors with its warm yet industrial charm. With lighter wood, a pallet of gray hues and exposed mechanical systems, the newest branch of this Italian eatery from chef and restaurateur Ethan Stowell is a modern interpretation of the original location in Belltown.
An open floor plan makes the space feel big and bright while the layout of bars, tables and custom booths, made of ash and raw steel framing, subtly break up the footprint for a variety of seating options in a mere 2,600 square feet. The restaurant centers around a beautiful 16-foot-long maple slab table with live edges, handmade by Dovetail in their workshop. Bare bulbs hang over the full length of the communal table from the reclaimed Douglas fir trellis, which hides the ducting in the ceiling.
The wall behind the 22-foot-long Douglas fir bar top is paneled in reclaimed redwood and covered in mirrors, a nod to the original location. Sliding window walls made of Douglas fir along both sidewalk edges in addition to a double-tiered patio take full advantage of the ground floor location.
