As part of the BBC project, these two houses are wood frame, a material that provides better insulation in particular by reducing thermal bridges. Wood also refers to the idea of a hut in the wood, in harmony with the landscape surrounding.
Untreated larch cladding is a double skin either fixed or mobile, and dresses east and west facades in R + 1.
The wood is placed in vertical slats separated by a few centimeters to protect views from inside and outside and the sun in the summer.
The space battens varies openings to create a rhythm and vibrations occur with the game of transparency windows that reveal behind the wood.
The villas are town houses and are in a semi-suburban landscape, half industrial. To keep this footprint, black zinc is used for the bedrock and roof in R+2 of the two houses.
The glass is also very important to use maximum of natural light and allow a dialogue with the surrounding nature. Flat roofs are accessible. The roofs are facing south and inclined to accommodate photovoltaic panels that produce the energy needed for the proper functioning of the house. Its shape also reminds of the surrounding sheds and the sloping roofs of the existing houses.
The two timber frame BBC houses are laureates of a call of projects that aims to promote the realization of sustainable buildings. Also they have been pricewinners of a national competition of wood constructions: “Trophée Bois” , organized by the national organization of wood development.
These two operations has become references for the construction and are certified with the Label PROMOTELEC BBC – EFFINERGIE
