Sand House is a renovation and expansion project of an original caiçara-style house, to which we brought elements of a rustic Mediterranean DNA.
Distinct features of the original house were preserved, such as the walls, the roofs, and the beautiful cathedral-style ceiling with exposed wooden beams highlighted by indirect lighting.
To this primary structure, Mediterranean elements were added through colors, textures, and décor. Every space in Casa Areia, including the suites and bathrooms, follows the same comfortable rustic approach, giving the project the atmosphere of a boutique hotel.
The exterior of Casa Areia underwent a significant expansion through the simple idea of attaching a large pergola to the home’s original structure.
With a ceiling made of bamboo biribinhas and skylights that bring in natural light, the pergola houses most of the leisure area, including the gourmet space, living area, fire pit lounge, and spa zone.
The rustic Mediterranean style is preserved in the gneiss stone flooring, the charred wood countertops made using the Shou Sugi Ban technique, the furniture, the textures, and the two-tone natural stone pool.
