Located between the Alfama hill and the Tagus River in Lisbon, the project rehabilitates a palace whose constructive stratigraphy layers several historical periods and functions. The main staircase, the vaulted ground-floor gallery, wooden floors, masonry, ironwork and tile coverings are preserved throughout the intervention. New dormer windows and terraces improve natural lighting and ventilation and strengthen the building's relationship with its urban surroundings.
The building was originally designed as multi-family housing arranged around its original courtyard, with commercial use maintained at ground level. It has since been converted to operate as tourist apartments, while the ground-floor commercial use and the preserved historic fabric remain unchanged.
