On Rua da Junqueira, next to the Fragmentos-designed Museu do Terramoto – Quake, the project rehabilitates and extends a pre-existing building that housed the former Mitera warehouses. The original character of the building is preserved on the street front, while the extension sits discreetly behind the façade, respecting the surrounding volumes.
Courtyards, terraces and other exterior spaces structure the plan, bringing daylight, ventilation and a relationship with the outdoors into the interior. A shared roof level adds a swimming pool and landscaped areas. Timber elements used for courtyard screening and roof structures echo those of the adjacent Quake project, giving the two buildings visual continuity along the street.
