Located in the countryside of Ribeirão Preto, within an old coffee farm still active as a family gathering place, the Cabin was designed by TWO Arquitetura as a contemporary retreat. Conceived to complement the historic manor house — which remains the center for meals and social gatherings — the new construction was created to autonomously accommodate family members and guests on weekends, providing comfort and practicality.
The project is based on a clear premise: to offer a functional and welcoming space that harmonizes with its natural and symbolic surroundings, capable of supporting frequent use without disrupting the farm’s narrative. The Cabin does not seek to replicate the past but rather to acknowledge it and engage in a dialogue through contrast and continuity.
With 150 m² of built area, the symmetrical floor plan organizes the social spaces — living room, home theater, and gourmet area — at the center of the building, while the four bedrooms, including two suites, are positioned at opposite ends. This configuration promotes both fluid circulation and privacy, thoughtfully designed for family group living.
Material selection was guided by both functional and symbolic aspects. The region’s characteristic red soil, present in the farm’s daily life, influenced the choice of darker palettes and durable surfaces that help mask dirt and enhance the space’s practicality. Exposed brick walls in a gray tone resonate with the rustic surroundings and the clients’ preference for sobriety. Natural wood, hydraulic tiles in the bathrooms, and organic fabrics introduce texture, tactile comfort, and warmth — three fundamental elements in TWO’s design language.
Timelessness guides every design decision. No choice is ephemeral: materials such as wood, brick, and hydraulic tiles are durable and timeless. Even after nearly a decade, the Cabin maintains its aesthetic and functional relevance. The predominance of gray, the residents’ preferred color, is softened by selective accents in cool tones. The green display cabinet and the bluish-gray kitchen provide a chromatic counterpoint that harmonizes with the natural landscape.
The relationship with the surroundings was carefully considered. Large glass doors frame views of the farm, promoting cross ventilation, natural light, and visual integration with the greenery. Artificial lighting was designed with the same care, consisting of wall sconces, pendants, and table lamps that create soft and welcoming atmospheres.
Responding to a specific client request, the children’s bedroom was designed to maximize sleeping capacity: two triple bunk beds (bunk beds with trundle beds) comfortably accommodate up to six children while maintaining organization and visual lightness.
More than a functional annex, the Cabin is a contemporary extension of the manor house, sensitively interpreting the clients’ tastes and lifestyle. With a streamlined structure, high-quality materials, and a sober design language, the project reflects TWO’s commitment to practical, timeless architecture deeply connected to its place.
