In the long-forgotten basement space on the edge of the historic city center of Črnomelj, we placed the Treasury within the castle walls, an entry point for the interpretation of the natural and cultural heritage of the Črnomelj Municipality. With the renovation, we created an open space intended for various cultural events and mutual meetings. The waste material was removed from the room, the walls and ceiling were statically reinforced, and the access stairs and the terrace in front of the building were arranged. We designed a new entrance and planned two larger panoramic openings for seating in the place of small windows. We inserted a light, metal structure with a gallery floor into the shell of the heavy stone walls, while the center of the space remained empty. We placed the central "exhibit", a large table with pull-out drawers (for municipal "treasures"), and a large touch screen on it. We also designed the exhibition set-up in the form of light fixtures.
We have also approached the treasury area in a more comprehensive manner. more broadly, from the point of view of the entire city center. Črnomelj Castle, in whose northern walls we placed the treasury, once defended the only land access to the urban corner of the city. On its northern side, the so-called "graben", i.e. the city ditch, over which the "Dry Bridge", which still today represents the only access to the city center. We want to clean the ditch area, which today is completely illegible, of redundant, improvised additions or elements and re-present it, and at the same time establish an open space-market in front of the castle walls with a treasury. Therefore, when this part of the project is completed, entry into it will also be possible from the north side, where there will also be some parking lots and the possibility for buses to drop off visitors there. Until this part of the project is implemented, access to the treasury is only via stairs and a ramp from the main city square, Freedom Square.
