The shadow factory was born from a simple idea: to create a place in Paris where one can truly take the time to look.
The building is organized around a vast void that rises toward the sky. Natural light enters throughout the day, accompanying visitors on their journey. It shifts with the passing hours, gliding across the walls and touching the water to reveal shadows that give the space a constantly changing presence.
Exhibition spaces, studios, workshops, and laboratories are arranged around this open heart. Each space has its own unique relationship with light and darkness, depending on the artworks and activities housed within.
The choice of materials contributes to this atmosphere: dark concrete, stone, reclaimed brick, steel, glass, and water. They lend the building a sober, profound presence—one capable of accommodating images without competing with them.
La Fabrique des Ombres is, above all, a place dedicated to photography. People come here to view artworks, work, experiment, and learn. They also come to observe their surroundings: shifting light, a reflection in the water, or a shadow moving slowly across a wall.
The architecture quietly complements these moments.
