The project is developed within the framework of the international competition for the reconfiguration of the reception and access spaces of the Musée du Louvre, related to the redesign of the Cour Napoléon entrance system in Paris. This approach is based on the programmatic guidelines for the transformation of the museum, aiming to improve visitor flow management, spatial legibility of entry sequences, and the articulation between heritage architecture and contemporary public infrastructure.
The Pyramid of Pyramide du Louvre remains the primary articulation point of the entire system. It is preserved in its position and integrated as a geometric reference and a central distribution device within the spatial organization.
The intervention establishes a continuous lightweight canopy of glass and steel, structured according to the existing grid of the palace and the main circulation directions. This canopy introduces climatic and luminous modulation, generating gradients of shadow, transparency, and reflection across the courtyard. The structural system is conceived as a slender framework with low visual inertia, ensuring the continued readability of the historic façades.
The ground plane of the Cour Napoléon becomes a mobility infrastructure. Circulation is redistributed between surface level and underground levels, ensuring continuous pathways toward reception areas, security checkpoints, and access points to the various museum wings. The descent systems are embedded within the overall geometry of the site, using ramp structures and calibrated openings.
The project incorporates a structured landscape system composed of layered vegetation integrated into both the canopy grid and the interstitial spaces of the infrastructure. Vegetation operates as a microclimatic regulator and a spatial reading device. Shallow hydraulic elements contribute to the tension of reflections and the spatial qualification of movement sequences.
The constructive language combines structural glass, finely detailed steel assemblies, existing stone, and integrated vegetation systems. The whole defines an expanded entrance system in which the notion of threshold is redistributed into a continuous spatial organization capable of simultaneously managing flow, waiting, orientation, and the perception of the monument.
