Taoxichuan Red Bridge is a landscape bridge designed for pedestrians and cyclists, span-ning one of the major traffic arteries in the urban area of Jingdezhen City, the millennium-old porcelain capital. With a length of 53 meters and a height of 6.4 meters, it links Taoxichuan Cre-ative Plaza on the west side to the entrepreneurial block renovated from Weimin Porcelain Fac-tory on the east side, forming a 2-kilometer-long pedestrian walkway. The bridge introduces a new urban strategy for Jingdezhen—subtly repairing the rift created by traffic infrastructure while catalyzing a shift toward green mobility.
The design is intended to create The bridge introduces a new urban strategy for Jingde-zhen—subtly repairing the rift created by traffic infrastructure while catalyzing a shift toward green mobility. The surface texture of the red grilles and the spatial form of the S-shaped 3D curved surface stand out prominently from the surrounding environment, serving as a carrier for showcasing Jingdezhen’s porcelain capital culture. The bridge’s structure is concealed within U-shaped hollow steel grille profiles. The hollow profiles capture sunlight to cast shifting patterns of light and shadow that animate the bridge throughout the day. The red color is derived from the ji hong (sacrificial red) glaze of Jingdezhen porcelain. At night, the bridge presents a kiln fire-like lighting effect. Optical fibers pre-embedded in the bridge deck are distributed like stars, re-sembling the scene of the Magpie Bridge rendezvous.
The bridge adopts an integral steel truss-steel box girder composite structure, where steel bears tensile forces and concrete withstands compressive forces. This design gives full play to the mechanical properties of the two materials, achieving an effect where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. With a main span of 36 meters and a main girder height of 0.4 meters, resulting in a height-span ratio of 1:90. It ranks as the landscape bridge with the smallest girder height for the same span category worldwide at present. The main girder also functions as the lower chord of the truss, maximizing the load-bearing efficiency of the components. Prefabri-cated construction enabled rapid assembly on site while maintaining uninterrupted traffic below.
