Located in the Rio Branco neighborhood of Porto Alegre, the Sél Candiota Functional Space project transforms a commercial unit into an environment dedicated to functional training and dermatofunctional treatments. The program is organized into two complementary zones: an open area for physical training activities and two consultation rooms dedicated to clinical care.
From the outset, the design process was guided by an understanding of the user's routines and experiences. Through conversations with the owner and her team, the project sought to identify operational needs as well as the values and identity of the brand. The proposal therefore aimed to create a dynamic environment capable of stimulating different physical capacities - including strength, flexibility, coordination and balance -, while also promoting well-being and a welcoming atmosphere.
The spatial strategy is based on revealing and activating the building’s existing structure. The removal of the suspended gypsum ceiling exposed the slab, which was in good condition and became a central element in the organization of the space. Beyond increasing the perception of height, the exposed slab began to function as the structural support for the functional training equipment.
Unlike conventional systems that rely on floor-mounted structures, the equipment in this project is suspended directly from the slab, freeing the floor area below and allowing greater flexibility for movement and training activities. This decision enables the space to be used more freely, supporting a wider range of exercises and spatial configurations.
The layout prioritizes a large open central area dedicated to physical activity, while the consultation rooms are positioned to ensure privacy and comfort during specialized treatments. The color palette reinforces both the spatial atmosphere and the brand identity: shades of blue contribute to a sense of calm and focus, while yellow introduces energy and vitality. Green evokes balance and well-being; gray provides a neutral base that brings cohesion and longevity to the composition.
More than accommodating different functions within a single environment, the project seeks to create a space that supports the company’s broader mission: encouraging healthier lifestyles and improving quality of life. By revealing and incorporating the existing structure as an active component of the design, the architecture transforms the space into a dynamic environment that stimulates movement, care and well-being.
