The project undertook alterations to the existing family home on the clifftop edge of Rothesay Bay. The brief included taking advantage of the coastal sea views and providing a modern four-bedroom home with separate lounge attached to the master bedroom.
The home has been designed around the garage and the footprint of the ground floor, recycling as much of the existing slab and groundwork structures as possible. A combination of vertical and horizontal cedar shiplap, metal cladding, and plaster have been used. These, combined with low-lying roofs, help to break up the building's form. The box forms have been integrated with recesses, eyebrow roofs, battens, and black joinery to provide an interesting contrast between texture and form. Working with the existing parameters and layered approach has resulted in a modern home that rests comfortably between neighboring high and low properties.
