Using a holistic approach to redesigning living space, we succeeded in meeting the client’s wish to thoroughly renovate the interior, the exterior and the adjacent garden of their residential house originally built in the nineties.
Inside the house several rooms were connected into one large living space by removing excessive partition walls. The living space was then further extended towards the outside of the house with the addition of a glasshouse, a wooden terrace and the light roof that connects them. The unhindered flow of space between the interior and the exterior is further emphasized by the new composition of windows with wooden frames.
All this allowed for an abundance of natural light to reach the living spaces within the house where wood and plaster help to create a light and cozy environment and form a neutral backdrop for the various artworks the clients had collected on their many journeys around the world that have been integrated into the design of the house’s interior through careful consideration of views, composition and hierarchy.
The garden which encloses the house on three sides was completely redesigned in accordance with its three partite nature: one enters the property through the lush foliage of the entryway on the Southwest which forms a sort of protective barrier between the private space of the garden and the public street. From there we reach the central contemplative part of the garden on the Southwestern side, complete with a pond. It is followed by the recreational (active) part of the garden and, finally, ends with the raised beds of the vegetable garden. Several art installations and sculptures were placed throughout the garden, mirroring the interior of the house.
