This residence is a bold and sculptural statement, celebrating a rustic, earthy materiality and innovative structural forms. The architecture's most defining characteristic is its series of dramatic, sweeping vaulted roofs. These catenary arches, clad externally in intricate mosaic tilework, create a unique, undulating silhouette that sets it apart from its surroundings. This is not just an aesthetic choice; it is a structural system that defines the very essence of the interior spaces.
The material palette is honest and robust, rooted in a regional context. Exposed brick is used extensively, not just for walls but also for intricate jali screens and decorative coursework, adding texture and depth to the facade. This is complemented by a heavy base of random rubble stone masonry, which grounds the building firmly to the earth. The interplay between the precise geometry of the brickwork and the organic form of the stone is a key design theme.
Internally, the drama of the exterior vaults translates into expansive, light-filled volumes with soaring, curved ceilings. These ceilings are left as exposed concrete or finished with brick, showcasing the home's construction. The interior continues the tactile experience with rough stone feature walls, polished concrete floors with traditional painted patterns, and rich, dark woodwork for the furniture, windows, and a prominent central staircase. The layout appears to be organized around a central, multi-level void, with bridges and overlooks enhancing the sense of space and connection. The result is a home that feels both ancient and contemporary—a handcrafted sanctuary that prioritizes natural materials, artisanal details, and dynamic spatial experiences.
