This residence is a rich tapestry of traditional Indian architecture and contemporary design, creating a space that feels both timeless and deeply personal. The design is characterized by an inward-looking plan, centered around a multi-story atrium with a skylight that floods the interior with natural light. This central courtyard acts as the home's vibrant core, connecting various levels and spaces.
Architecturally, the house showcases an extraordinary commitment to natural materials and intricate craftsmanship. The extensive use of dark, polished wood is evident in the detailed railings, staircases, and traditional Chettinad-style pillars, lending warmth and heritage to the space. This is contrasted with rough-hewn, grey stone-clad walls that add a rustic and grounding texture. The exterior is a striking example of biophilic design, with cascading vertical gardens and lush greenery that seem to reclaim the modern white facade, blurring the line between the built environment and nature.
The interior is a veritable gallery, reflecting a passion for collecting. A remarkable array of antique grandfather and mantel clocks is displayed throughout, serving as a defining feature of the home’s character. This collection, alongside traditional art, stained glass windows depicting mythological scenes, and family photographs, creates a narrative-rich environment.
