This residence is a powerful and evocative celebration of raw materiality and innovative social design, creating a space that is both industrial and incredibly warm. The architectural narrative is driven by an honest expression of its core materials: exposed brick, board-formed concrete, and polished grey flooring. Instead of concealing its structure, the design proudly displays its construction, creating a robust aesthetic where the inherent warmth of the brick is masterfully balanced with the cool, monolithic presence of the concrete.
A standout feature is the central living area, where the staircase is ingeniously integrated with amphitheater-style seating, transforming a simple circulation element into the vibrant, social heart of the home. This encourages informal gatherings and family interaction, a concept further enhanced by playful elements like a large net hammock suspended in a void, emphasizing a design that prioritizes joy and unconventional living. The home is filled with clever, handcrafted details, from a child's bedroom loft with a staircase made of integrated storage units to an external stair crafted from hollow perforated bricks, creating a visually light and permeable structure.
The mastery of light and shadow is central to the home's atmosphere. The house is punctuated by lightwells and courtyards that draw daylight deep into the interior. These spaces feature dramatic compositions, such as concrete walls with thin horizontal slits and highly-patterned, three-dimensional brickwork.
