The Echo of Queen’s Beach: A Parametric Biophilic Landmark
Context & Narrative Challenge Located at a diamond waterfront site in Quy Nhon, Vietnam—a coastal city defined by rapid tourism growth—the Nguyen Huệ Boutique Hotel addresses a critical architectural paradox: how to high-densify an urban resort (FAR 10.87) without losing the poetic connection to the local ecosystem. The design replaces a declining, rigid concrete facility with a living, breathing landmark that honors the natural heritage of Ghềnh Ráng Tiên Sa and the historic Queen's Beach.
The Concept: Geometric Erosion & Biophilic Compression Inspired by the naturally stacked egg-shaped stones at Queen’s Beach, the tower rejects standard box geometry. Instead, it adopts a parametric fluid form that mirrors the rhythmic erosion caused by sea waves and winds.
The building structure is divided into two dialogue-driven components:
• The Ecological Cave (Podium): The first three floors are sculpted into organic, undulating concrete layers that mimic coastal cliffs. A soaring high atrium lobby integrates interior spaces with vertical tropical gardens and cooling water features, erasing the boundaries between the urban streetscape and pure nature.
• The Bioclimatic Skin (Tower): The main tower utilizes a parametric algorithm to sculpt a structural exoskeleton with soft, rounded apertures. Every single opening on the facade is computationally optimized to frame panoramic views of the Quy Nhon bay, maximize the cooling North-East sea breezes, and auto-shade the interior rooms from the harsh Western afternoon sun.
Materiality & Sustainable Digital Craftsmanship To withstand the highly corrosive marine environment, the project introduces Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) as its primary architectural skin. UHPC allows for ultra-thin, lightweight, yet incredibly durable structural curves that extend the building's lifespan to over 50 years while minimizing raw material waste. Local granite and structural timber are integrated within the wellness zones to reduce the project's carbon footprint and ground the building in its regional context.
Through advanced BIM modeling and Wind Load Simulations, the complex parametric facade is rationalized into prefabricated modules manufactured off-site. This computational workflow guarantees extreme technical precision, reduces construction time by 30%, and minimizes environmental disruption in the dense tourist hub.
The Vision of Tomorrow Nguyen Huệ Boutique Hotel is not merely a hospitality space; it is a vision of "Regenerative Tourism." By compressing 40% of its site into dynamic sky gardens, intermediate green terraces, and a rooftop infinity pool, the architecture acts as an urban cooling engine. It reduces HVAC energy consumption by 25% and actively combats the urban heat island effect. It stands as a testament to how local Vietnamese architecture can synthesize parametric digital innovation with deeply rooted biophilic responsiveness—creating a timeless sanctuary for the next 20 years.
