D. Canale & Co., a family-owned Memphis-based food and beverage wholesale distributor operating for 140 years, has ambitiously transformed a 1920s-era warehouse into a Tennessee whiskey and vodka distillery. The project has given life to a centuries-old family distribution that was halted during Prohibition and features a working state-of-the-art distillery, including barrel and aging storage.
Throughout the distillery, the design team was challenged to blend the aesthetic of the existing, industrial machine warehouse and technical distilling process with turn-of-the-century traditional elegance. As the Old Dominick brand and final project carries the family name, the Canale family was intent on quality and authentic design choices.
The reuse of the existing warehouse shell and remnants from aging barrels helped with both the overall building cost and lessened new building material environmental impact. LED light on the property is all coordinated through display technology and occupancy sensors.
The revitalization of the building and transformation of the interiors provide a welcoming atmosphere to greet tourists and spirit enthusiasts alike.
