Developed as a central component of the Beau Plan Smart City, the Mahogany Shopping Promenade is conceived as an open, landscape-integrated retail environment shaped around the site’s existing lake. Designed in collaboration with Design Partnership, the project redefines the traditional mall typology by prioritising continuity between built form and outdoor space.
The spatial strategy organises retail, leisure, and social functions along a fluid sequence of open and covered areas, allowing constant visual and physical connection to the surrounding landscape. This approach supports a more informal, community-oriented experience — where circulation becomes part of the destination rather than a transitional condition.
Particular attention is given to user experience, with key touchpoints designed through a hospitality lens. Pause areas are conceived as lounge-like settings, incorporating bespoke furniture and varied seating arrangements to encourage longer dwell times and a more relaxed engagement with the space.
The project is deeply rooted in its context. Repurposed sugar cane machinery, sourced on site, is integrated as sculptural elements, anchoring the development in the island’s industrial heritage. This is complemented by the inclusion of local contemporary art, introducing moments of discovery throughout the promenade.
Food plays a central role in the project’s identity. The Le Marché food court is designed as a destination in its own right — combining curated communal seating with a diverse mix of operators, from established brands to local and artisanal vendors. The introduction of food trucks further reinforces this dynamic, offering flexibility, variety, and a constantly evolving experience.
Mahogany Shopping Promenade reflects a shift towards more open, adaptable retail environments — where architecture supports not only commerce, but social interaction, cultural expression, and a strong sense of place.
