Located on the west coast of Mauritius, the Life Viva & Life Nova+ Healthcare Clinic is conceived as a contemporary healthcare environment rooted in wellbeing, clarity, and ease of use. Developed in collaboration with Bloomage Property Fund, the project transforms an existing structure into a cohesive and recognisable place of care within the Tamarin region.
The architectural identity is defined by a double-volume entrance and a distinctive roof silhouette, establishing a clear point of arrival and reinforcing the clinic’s presence within its context. A restrained material palette brings coherence to the intervention, balancing durability with a calm and timeless expression.
The design places strong emphasis on environmental responsiveness. Shading devices, including screens and pergolas, are carefully integrated to control solar exposure while allowing natural light to filter into interior spaces. This interplay creates evolving patterns throughout the day, contributing to both comfort and spatial quality.
Internally, the layout is organised to support intuitive circulation and efficient operation, while maintaining a sense of calm for patients, visitors, and staff. Particular attention is given to scale, light, and materiality to create an environment that feels both functional and reassuring.
Landscape is treated as an extension of the architecture. Planted areas and shaded outdoor spaces contribute to the microclimate, reducing heat gain while offering moments of pause within the healthcare journey. This integration reinforces a broader approach to wellbeing, where built and natural elements work together to support recovery and everyday use.
The Life Viva & Life Nova+ Clinic demonstrates how adaptive reuse, combined with a considered architectural approach, can create a healthcare environment that is both efficient and grounded in its context — supporting not only clinical function, but the overall experience of care.
