In the summer of 2019, KRA and Bon Constructors commenced design and construction of our new office, located in the Strathcona Village mixed-use development in Vancouver, BC. The resulting design was a collaborative effort which provides flexible, light-filled, and open work-space.
The design was a collaborative effort between KRA and Bon Constructors Inc. to create a light-filled, flexible, open environment to support employees through an elevated work experience.
A restrained finishes palette with a blend of textures and patterns adds warmth to the environment balancing the industrial elements of the existing space.
To promote flexibility within the space, KRA and Bon Constructors Inc. design furniture partitions using exposed plywood. This material selection compliments the raw industrial aesthetic.
Key features include the use of flexible ergonomic sit stand desks, polished concrete floors, and bespoke lighting and millwork. A restrained finishes palette was selected, employing locally-sourced and eco-friendly products.
Special attention was paid to acoustics as they can be challenging in an open office if left untreated. To help mitigate sound transmission, the team designed and constructed a series of custom made acoustic panels fabricated in-house which have become a key design feature of the space.
The result is a bespoke, sustainable, and budget-friendly project spirited by a true collaboration of architect and contractor.
