City Centre Surgery is a multi-specialty surgical facility that performs cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery. Located on the fifth floor of a 23-storey tower in Surrey, BC, this five-OR non-hospital surgical facility brings together a full range of clinical and support spaces, including patient change areas, state of the art surgical suites, pre- and post-operative recovery, MDRD, sterile storage, and the back-of-house spaces that support the day-to-day work of the care team.
The new purpose-built facility is a tenant fit out of a commercial building located at the City Centre 4 Development in Surrey, BC and consists of 1,950 square metres of programmed space that will meet both its current and future needs.
The interior design of the new City Surgery Centre balances a minimalist calm environment, with bespoke millwork and sensitive light fixtures. Our team has endeavored to maximize natural light where possible to encourage healing and recovery. This presents a spa-like atmosphere for visitors and patients before their procedures and continues through into the surgical areas.
KRA’s equipment planning team worked in close collaboration with the client, ensuring clear alignment of Owner-Supplied, Contractor-Installed (OSCI) equipment requirements to support efficient procurement and project delivery. The equipment list was reviewed, refined and validated for seamless integration into the design. The equipment planning approach was designed to optimize operational readiness, streamline clinical workflows, and accommodate future growth.
The KRA team kicked off test fits of this space in 2021, working with Valley Surgery Centre team through early planning that helped shape the project into what it is today. This collaboration, which included the base building architectural and consultant teams, meant that recommendations were made, reviewed and carried out by the developer/general contractor to ensure that the shell space would be a good fit for the Surgical Facility.
Items which were reviewed included increased floor to floor height, column spacing in some key areas (adjusted to fit operating room clearances), structure was reviewed and revised to accommodate CSA vibration requirements, as well as a clearly defined route identified for stretcher access to ambulances in the parking/loading zone.
All of this was undertaken in the spirit of collaboration, we worked closely with all parties and in doing so maximized the spatial opportunities for our client without impacting the base building significantly as it was
not yet under construction.
