Vision Reimagined
Hitachi Vantara embarked on a bold workplace transformation at their location in Macquarie Park, Sydney. The project presented a compelling challenge: reduce spatial footprint from 2,000 sqm to a highly optimised and agile 900 sqm while simultaneously enhancing functionality and embodying the organisation's foundational values of Harmony, Sincerity, and Pioneering Spirit.
Our mission was to create an environment that would not only inspire employee engagement and collaborative innovation but would also serve as a physical manifestation of Hitachi's identity as a technology leader.
Design Approach
The architectural concept centered around bringing the "One Hitachi" vision into physical reality through thoughtfully connected spatial experiences. At the heart of the design lies a vibrant collaboration hub—a dynamic nucleus that encourages adaptability and cross-functional teamwork. Strategic positioning of meeting spaces, casual gathering areas, and flexible work zones creates intuitive movement patterns that foster organic interaction while maintaining productivity.
Brand integration forms a core design strategy, with bold material selections and purposeful colour applications that communicate Hitachi's values throughout the space. 'Inspire Red' elements symbolise passion, while 'Future Blue' components represent innovation and forward thinking. These deliberate colour choices create visual anchors that reinforce organisational identity while enhancing wayfinding throughout the environment.
Sustainability principles guided material selection and spatial planning, with existing architectural elements repurposed wherever feasible. The client-facing front-of-house areas were reimagined as welcoming, transparent spaces that dissolve traditional boundaries between reception and break areas, creating fluid connections between client-facing functions and internal teams.
Transformative Outcomes
The completed workspace represents a new chapter for Hitachi Sydney—a modern, forward-thinking environment that achieves remarkable balance between aesthetic elegance, functional versatility, and environmental responsibility. The design serves as a physical embodiment of Hitachi's mission and values, reinforcing their unified "One Hitachi" identity through collaborative spatial arrangements and strategic visual cues.
Implementation of an efficient desk-sharing model paired with adaptable spatial configurations maximizes operational efficiency while simultaneously cultivating an atmosphere that stimulates creativity. This transformed environment actively supports innovation while nurturing a vibrant community culture among team members, positioning Hitachi for continued success in an evolving business landscape.
