Glavé & Holmes Architecture (G&HA) completed an expansion to the Freeman Center, the recreation and fitness facility at Christopher Newport University. G&HA was asked to identify a preliminary program that would provide space for a gym and fitness center, health services, student counseling, an auditorium, and meeting rooms. Subsequently G&HA designed the renovation and 62,000 square foot addition to the Freeman Center. The project increases the capacity and amenity of recreation and meeting spaces for students as well as provides additional practice space for the Athletic Department. The new construction adjoins the existing structure and houses student life spaces featuring a new 385-seat performing arts space and student auditorium, meeting rooms, student lounge, a gymnasium, recreation spaces, offices and ancillary building support. New facilities for Student Health and Counseling departments are also included in the addition.
