Exuma Oceanfront Family Compound Remodel
Commissioned for a Miami family seeking a private retreat from their Coral Gables residence, this Exuma property is being transformed from a weathered, outdated, island compound into a completely curated, relaxed, highly functional home designed for extended family gatherings. Currently in the planning and design phase, the project responds to the demands of island living while creating an atmosphere that feels warm, natural, and connected to the ocean.
Hand-applied cement finishes, layered ceiling treatments, natural textures, and durable performance materials bring depth and character to the interiors while supporting the needs of a family with young children. A Jack-and-Jill children’s suite incorporates seagrass wallcovering, built-in bookcases above each bed, and a dedicated play area designed to feel personal and imaginative.
The outdoor spaces extend the home’s living and entertaining areas toward the water. A private terrace adjoins the primary suite, while the kitchen opens to an outdoor dining area. Beyond the reed-canopied pergola, a reclaimed oak dining table for 8, a built-in bar finished in indigenous stones from the island. Sitting outside the pergola is a sunken conversation pit and fire table that creates relaxed entertaining overlooking the ocean.
