The ÉTS Student Center, a LEEDⓇ Gold project, is located between the main pavilion and the student residences, and centralizes all student services into a single building.
Inspired by the activities of an icehouse that once stood on the site, the building’s crystal-like appearance is light, open and airy. Its unusual shape unifies the mixed-use design and enlivens the urban landscape with a series of insets and projections.
To the south and east, the composition of volumes was carved out to create space for a future park that will serve as an extension of the indoor atrium. With its cherrywood panelled ceiling, the vast atrium resembles a landscape with an inverted topography. An impressive steel truss organizes and defines the space, evoking the railway bridges and industrial structures found in the neighbourhood.
