OPN was engaged by the City of Davenport to design a new fire station to replace the existing Fire Station No. 3. The fire station will be a multi-purpose facility and include other municipal functions such as police workstations and a 100-person community room doubling as an ICC-500 rated storm shelter. The design is a modern reflection of the city’s historic fire station. The simple plan and building siting promotes efficient response times. The station is equipped with three double-deep drive-thru apparatus bays with room to house a command vehicle, pumper engine, and aerial apparatus. A mezzanine in the apparatus bay and the egress stair both offer built-in training props, in addition to a training stair, hose drying, and roof access. Designed for five full-time firefighters with room to grow up to nine, and living quarters including a full kitchen and exercise area. Sited in a residential area, the building’s massing is responsive and respectful of its neighbors.
