The Marion High School Auditorium is the fifth addition to Marion Independent School District’s 1962 High School. (1968, 1994, 1993, 2009, 2023). It was a much-anticipated replacement for the 1968 Auditorium and supports the entire MISD community.
The new auditorium seats approximately 760 patrons in 23 rows of seats. The 100’ wide x 40’ deep stagehouse has a 50’ by 22’ proscenium opening, and the stage is large enough for 175 student performers. The fly space hosts 32 rigging lines for lights, curtains, orchestra shells, and backdrops and supports a full range of theatrical performances.
As an adaptable performance space, it is equipped with movable Acoustical Shell Towers that enhance many different types of acoustical performances on stage. A motorized presentation screen descends from the proscenium and acts as a backdrop for projected presentations and a modern audio system amplifys performers when needed. Handicapped-accessible seats distributed throughout the auditorium and the stage are fully accessible so that everyone can be on stage and in the audience. A hearing loop that sends audio signals directly to those who rely on assistive listening devices is built into the auditorium.
While the new facility is connected to the high school and its primary purpose is to support K-12 education, the facility is positioned and designed to be separate from the rest of the school and accommodate non-school, community use.
For acoustical reasons, the exterior of the auditorium utilizes precast concrete walls. The precast concrete has a dynamic design that invokes the excitement and dynamism of Marion’s performing arts community.
